About "Dr. B",

2024 Governor-General Achievement Award (GGAA) Recipient, Jamaica

"Opera meets reggae is personal to me and evokes the fondest memory of my childhood and my family. My mother loved opera and my father loved reggae. As a Jamaican, reggae is embedded in my soul and it is a significant part of my culture; and I loved opera since childhood."

When I am not practicing medicine, I am at a reggae or opera concert.  Several years ago, I was en route to work changing the songs from reggae to opera and vice versa; I had an epiphany. Why do I have to choose between opera and reggae? That day, the concept for fusing opera meets reggae was born. I find joy and solace in the fusion of opera and reggae. It often changed the trajectory of my day. I aspired to share this unique, uplifting experience internationally and locally beginning with the South Florida community and the Jamaican community; providing a cultural immersion uniting diverse communities, transcending boundaries resulting in love and passion, honoring the timeless message of Bob Marley - it is like therapy - ONE LOVE.

On March 3, 2024, I collaborated with Florida Grand Opera to feature the special appearance of the Legendary Reggae Artist Luciano. Sponsors were engaged to have the inaugural Opera Meets Reggae 1.0 concert also called “HIT ME WITH MUSIC” at the Miami Beach Bandshell. It was magnificent; with approximately 400 people swaying to the pulse of the music, singing in harmony and dancing to the beat as the rhythm of the music guided them.
